Dr. Swapnil Mane shared his story, “When I was 8 years old, I saw one of my neighbours suffering from lung cancer. He was a labourer who earned Rs. 50-60 per day. As his condition got worse, he was taken to a hospital. But the treatment fee was Rs. 50,000-60,000 which they could not afford. I asked my mother why he wasn’t being treated my mother answered that doctors only treat those who pay them. This impacted me a lot. I promised my mother that I will become a doctor and treat poor people for free.”
